Common Core English Regents :
What's on the Common Core English Regents?
Part 1 - Reading Comprehension - 24 questions
- Will be challenging. Use your reading comprehension strategies:
- Annotate
- Re-read
- Use inflection with your silent reading voice (do not read in a monotone voice inside your head!)
- Refer back to the text for each question (even the ones that seem easy)
- Use process of elimination
Part 2 - Writing an Argumentative Essay
- Be sure to state your claim.
- Be sure to include counterclaim (show that you have an understanding of the other side of the argument).
- Be sure to include information from at least three of the texts, and use appropriate in-text citations (text 1, lines 17-21).
- Be sure to organize your essay into at least four paragraphs.
Part 3 - Text Analysis
- Identify the Central Idea
- Analyze how the author's use of one literary or rhetorical technique develops this central idea
- Be sure to include some quotes from the text
- Make sure to explain how the use of the technique helps to get the point across.
